Visit Ussel, the city of the Ventadour

Ussel is the capital of Haute-Corrèze ! A must-see place if you love nature, history and heritage. A small town labeled Town of Art and History, it is pleasant to walk there. It is an ideal vacation spot if you want a vacation in Corrèze surrounded by nature. We take you for a walk in old Ussel, the center of the town and its medieval appearance, then we will ask ourselves what to do around Ussel?

Visit the medieval city of Ussel

The medieval past of the city is clearly visible in its remains and beautiful remains. You will notice here the darker color of the building stone, we are in Haute-Corrèze and granite is everywhere!

Ussel is located on the east of the Plateau de Millevaches and the Monédières, it is at an altitude of about 600m. It is the City of Ventadour, where you will see the ducal residence (of the dukes) and other vestiges spanning from the medieval to the Renaissance. Its beautiful architectural ensemble is preserved from the ravages of time and old Ussel is rich in Bourgeois Houses and beautiful town houses. The House of Communist Priests , the Saint-Martin church from the ^12th and ^13th centuries, the Chapel of the Penitents, the Hotel Ventadour ... The town is crossed by 3 rivers including the Diège, a tributary of the Dordogne. At the Château de la Diège, you can visit an Arboretum in season.

To discover Ussel , the best way is to come at the end of the morning, take a walk and have lunch in one of its restaurants, before setting off to discover its surroundings for other adventures. Allow 30 minutes to tour the city and see most of its heritage.

What to do around Ussel

• Ponty Lake is nice for a walk around the lake or for fishing or a picnic. The nearest leisure and swimming lake will be the reservoir at Bort-les-Orgues, at Château de Val .
  
  
• Meymac is a pretty village a few kilometers from Ussel. It is one of the most beautiful detours in France and we recommend you go there during its summer markets where the party is in full swing! You will see beautiful heritage there.
  
  
• Mont Bessou and its observation tower : This is the highest peak in Corrèze and we recommend you go there! You can climb it, or simply drive up there. Then to reach the fateful 1000m you will have to climb the steps of the observation tower which offers a splendid view of the Auvergne mountains.
