    • The Towers of Merle: the medieval fortress in the heart of the Maronne valley

      The Stone Ladies

They keep you waiting, you wonder about their appearance, then, around a bend, they appear. Overlooking the Maronne Valley, the Merle Towers welcome you. The fortress seems impregnable. Perched on a 50-meter rocky spur and situated on a bend of the Maronne River, nature is their defensive barrier.

This listed historical monument invites you to discover the Xaintrie, a historic region of Corrèze with rich natural and cultural heritage. Transported on a journey through time, you'll discover that these seven towers once housed a medieval shared dwelling

      The Lords' Shared Apartment

Are you familiar with co- seigneury ? By visiting the Towers of Merle, you will learn more about the Pesteil, the Carbonnières or even the Merle, these noble families who, in order to assert themselves against neighboring forces, coexisted over the centuries.

Walk in the footsteps of these lords by climbing their majestic homes and accessing viewpoints overlooking the lush surrounding nature. Looking up, you might see red kites soaring gracefully over the valley. Below, enjoy the cool waters of the Maronne River, lose yourself in this wild beauty, and imagine yourself as a villager serving the lords' household.

Strategically located in medieval and current times, at the borders of three departments, the Towers of Merle are 50 minutes from Aurillac, 1 hour from Brive and 2 hours from Cahors.

The parade of entertainment at the Towers

Hear ye, hear ye, adventure lovers! Check the Tours de Merle calendar between Easter and All Saints' Day, because many activities await you.

There is something for everyone, young and old : guided tours, theatrical tours, medieval dances and music, investigation games, swashbuckling shows, herbal tea making, and even bat discovery.

Experience the excitement throughout the season with the team of passionate fans from Tours de Merle.

The Towers of Merle are a delightful triptych of ego clashes, enormous rocks, and a passion for latrines. And these three are in a rather awkward position! A site of breathtaking beauty complemented by a truly amusing guided tour 🪨
