Aubazine is a calm and pleasant place in all seasons. We come here to recharge our batteries, in this pretty monastic village in the middle of the woods. Discover its 12th century Cistercian Abbey and its abbey church. As you walk through the charming streets, you will come across old houses and one of them was home to the first steps of the future Coco Chanel! Fans of religious architecture will enjoy discovering the pretty Byzantine-inspired Chapel of Aubazine, a place of rest and mediation, which is adorned with very pretty frescoes on magnificent woodwork.
Aubazine is well situated for nature walks, particularly along the Canal des Moines. This work of art dates from the 12th century, it is contemporary with the Abbey and was also intended to supply water to the conventual buildings and gardens. At the Tourist Office you will find a topo guide with trails and game booklets to make the walk more attractive for children. Here is an overview of the hikes in Aubazine (fr) and around to find on the website of the Town Hall. The discovery plan (fr) of the city of Aubazine is very practical!
