    • The Glass Alchemist, or the art of taming matter in Uzerche

In the heart of the medieval town of Uzerche, the L'Alchimiste Verre workshop is a haven where time stands still. Here, glassblowing, a craft recognized as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is not merely exhibited: it is experienced. Driven by a passion born from a career change and a genuine love for the Corrèze region, the artist warmly welcomes you into her world.

The metamorphosis of glass: from magma to art object

A visit to the workshop is an invitation to discover the duality of molten glass. During the guided demonstrations (nominal contribution required), the artisan shares her expertise with pedagogy and enthusiasm. Observe the transformation of the material, from solid glass used to sculpt delicate flowers to hollow glass born from the breath.

Without any mold, she lets the magma flow naturally, drawing inspiration from the fluidity of a drop, the force of a flame, or the gentleness of a spring breeze. Her signature, the crackled effect, is a true philosophy: she sees in it the reflection of humankind, both solid and touchingly fragile.

      An introduction open to all

L'Alchimiste Verre is first and foremost a place for sharing and passing on knowledge. Committed to welcoming everyone in their uniqueness, Julie offers a fully accessible and inclusive space, adapted to all types of disabilities. To facilitate communication, services are available in French, English, German, or French Sign Language (LSF).

For those who wish to try working with the material, experiments are offered such as:

      • Creative workshops: making flowers or Christmas balls which participants collect after a crucial re-baking step the next day.
      • Commented demonstrations : a fascinating immersion into the behind-the-scenes of the profession.
      • Tailor-made projects: personalized creations and welcoming groups for total immersion.

For your information: To guarantee your place, an online booking platform is available for demonstrations and workshops.

To extend the experience, the workshop features a shop selling locally produced glass and a shaded courtyard with a café area. Since glassmaking depends on the furnace's operation, it is strongly recommended to call ahead to confirm the workshop is open.

For Heritage Day, Julie opened the doors to her workshop. She demonstrated a creation. And then I did a mini-course in flower creation. Julie is very welcoming and educational. She has managed to follow her passion; for her, it's a career change, and she's successful. I love her courage, and her sharing is very nice. At the end of the week, I'm going to pick up my flower (which had to stay in an oven to cool gently). 30 euros, my own flower included, is very reasonable! And her shop offers lots of objects, including unique pieces, for affordable prices. I recommend it!

The welcome is excellent in this cute shop, run by a designer as fascinating as she is passionate! We were treated to a demonstration that blew us away. There's something quite mesmerizing about watching hot glass transform with the artisan's movements to take on the appearance of a little cat, a whale, or even a candlestick. Bravo, artist!
