Uzerche is a charming town to discover, nestled on the banks of the Vézère River. It boasts an interesting heritage and a truly delightful atmosphere. We enjoyed wandering through its narrow streets and along the Vézère. Little castles with pointed roofs are tucked away around each beautiful cobbled lane. It's a wonderful place to stop, and in the summer, Uzerche is buzzing! Come along with us!

The Uzerche region and its pearl of the Limousin

That's what it's nicknamed in the region, which speaks volumes about its appeal! It's a town with a medieval feel and rich heritage. It's listed among the 100 most beautiful detours in France. Beyond this recognition, it's one of the most beautiful towns in the Corrèze department, and it seems like a wonderful place to live. This fortified town, built on terraces, slopes down towards the Vézère River. Its abbey and church of Saint-Pierre stand proudly atop the hill that welcomes Uzerche. With its octagonal bell tower watching over the town, it's a testament to Romanesque art.

Uzerche was a flourishing city, as evidenced by its rich heritage of small castles with roofs topped by pointed turrets.

We went for a walk along the Vézère River on a small nature trail until we reached the cultural center housed in a former paper mill. A visually striking space with ample room for street art to express itself. If you love graffiti, this is the place to go without hesitation!

Uzerche, in a bend of the Vézère river

Nestled in a bend, a meander, a loop (choose your preferred name!), Uzerche is built on a rocky spur, which gives it its distinctive elegance. It is also surrounded by greenery and enjoys a prime location. Park outside the town to appreciate panoramic views.

Visit to Uzerche

It was in the 10th century that Uzerche gained its value thanks to its powerful Benedictine abbey. A hundred monks settled there and it flourished thanks to the nobility and the bourgeois who competed with imagination to establish themselves around the abbey and form an enclosed complex, which today we still have great pleasure in admiring.

We visited the town thanks to a tour organized by the Tourist Office: the Heritage Trail. There are other ways to discover Uzerche, such as the meanders trail or the trail highlighting the links with Simone de Beauvoir, the life and work of the author.
