Holidays in Treignac!

Treignac is a perfect place for a family holiday in Corrèze, it has a double geographical advantage: in the gorges of the Vézère and at the gateway to the Regional Natural Park of the Plateau de Millevaches. It is a Nature Sports Station that lives up to its name since a multitude of nature, outdoor and sports leisure activities can be practiced there.

The origins of Treignac date back to around the year 1000, at the beginning of the Middle Ages. A castle was built there, of which no remains remain today. Around the 13th century, the town expanded because it was positioned on the Way of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle (the Rocamadour route). It is surrounded by ramparts, their evocation can be seen around the Porte de Chabirande. Damaged at the time of the Wars of Religion, Treignac recovered during the Renaissance and thanks to its landscape assets, its good life (at an altitude of around 400m, the air is healthy and pleasant), and the quality of its drinking water (the spring water is very pure), it continued to develop and even enjoyed the construction of a railway line.

The Halle de Treignac, in its first version, dates from the 13th century, it was remodeled to facilitate circulation in the village but retains its beautiful framework with slate tiles from Travassac. You will enjoy admiring the Chapel of Notre Dame de la Paix and its very curious twisted bell tower which performs a twist as it soars towards the sky. Amazing! Continue on the Rue de la Garde and let yourself be guided to continue your visit of Treignac.

We enjoyed a stop in the small village grocery store where you will find many regional products, from the Plateau de Millevaches, the Gorges and Valleys of the Vézère. Jams, regional alcohols, preserves and charcuterie specialties. We are enjoying ourselves.

About ten kilometers away, visit the abandoned village of Clédat . A place as interesting as it is mysterious!
