Visit Sarran and the President Jacques Chirac Museum!

Today, we're taking you to the heart of the Monédières Massif, to the village of Sarran, which is home to the President Jacques Chirac Museum. We'll also climb to the Puy de Sarran, to enjoy a fantastic view of the Monédières. At an altitude of 820m, Sarran is a small, dynamic town that will appeal to those who love green tourism, hiking and beautiful landscapes. Shall we go?

Sarran and the Puy de Sarran

Sarran is a small town of less than 300 souls, it is located in the heart of the Monédières in a green setting. An International Folklore Festival in August awakens this peaceful countryside in good humor. If you like small vernacular heritage, you will love walking the paths of Sarrant to admire crosses, fountains, mills, old ovens, and the very beautiful village church. Gallo-Roman remains are also present in the town.

The key point of Sarran is also the highest! At 819m above sea level, the Puy de Sarran dominates the village and the region. 3 monumental crosses are installed there and 2 orientation tables to understand this 360-degree landscape that is offered to you. You can go up there by car but the best is to take the Puy de Sarran hiking trail which starts from the Jacques Chirac Museum and is a little less than 10km. There is even a stop at the edge of a small pond, take something to eat for a break! All around the Puy, conifer plantations, the region is invested in forestry, the soil is favorable and the climate too. You will see several portions of Douglas fir planted, a tree that thrives in the region!

The President Jacques Chirac Museum

It is an interesting Museum, which does not really talk about the life of the President, originally from Corrèze, but more particularly about the Fifth Republic and the function of State in France, through diplomatic gifts received by the President. It is a small journey, we are transported to the 5 continents thanks to the eclectic objects, sometimes surprising, which illustrate well the differences in the cultures of all countries. More than 5000 objects are presented, classified, and for more than 20 years, the Museum is open and delighted the curious. You will be well received by a competent team to inform you, the place is bright and pleasant.

Things to see and do around Sarran

• Visit the Jardins du Centaure in Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat, a garden that makes the wonders of the Monédières subsoil available to grow delicacies that you will find in their producers' shop.
• A few kilometers away, visit the village of Corrèze, which took its name from the river that runs through it! A pretty village on the Way of Saint James!
• Les Monédières is an ancestral place of life, visit the abandoned village of Clédat to learn more about how to live in this place and its wonderful nature
• In Moustier-Ventadour, visit the Château de Ventadour to learn more about the region's noble origins!
