At the gates of the sumptuous Gorges de la Luzège is a place which is also undergoing renovation. While waiting to have a real museography around the Viaduc des Rochers Noirs, a civil engineering work which was used for the passage of trains, come and take a walk there. It is not so much the work as the place where it is built that makes it a small architectural feat of the time ! Here we go ?

The Black Rocks Viaduct

It is also called the Roche-Taillade Viaduct and its construction dates from 1913. It is a suspension bridge with a reinforced deck because the steep and unstable nature of the terrain made the engineers scratch their heads, who had to find mixed techniques to hold this viaduct across the ravine where the Luzège flows. Be careful, you cannot cross it and do not venture there because it is dangerous. It is at the heart of discussions for its renovation and tourist exploitation. Below, the Gorges de la Luzège are 92m lower. If you are interested in the bridges and their history, a local association organizes visits (ask for information at the Tourist Office). There are 2 belvederes designed to enjoy beautiful views of the Rochers Noirs viaduct.

Stroll around the Viaduct

Well, we can't do anything but admire it, so let's go for a walk to see it from all its angles! Park your car, put on your hiking shoes and head towards the suspended footbridge , set up below the Viaduct. Don't be like us, who forgot our swimsuits in the middle of summer... You can walk in the Luzège gorges and take a dip , it's a charming place that children will love. Bring a picnic too !

Several hiking trails allow you to discover the Viaduct and its surrounding environment. If you are sporty, we recommend this 11km trail walk/run which leaves from Lapleau to enjoy the wild nature of the place. Another 11km route to do by bike is available , see the bottom of our article for recommendations for hiking and cycling routes, to do with our partner Cirkwi.

Go visit the Jardins de Firmin in nearby Soursac , to also admire the Viaduct from there. Go on to the Eagle Dam, if you like imposing structures built by the hand of man! There is a picnic area. I then recommend that you join Spontour, to go for a walk in Gabarre (commune of Soursac, you must book in advance) and take the road that runs along the gorges, it's just sublime and there are waterfalls on the path !

Have fun in the Gorges de la Luzège !
