Take a walk in the heart of nature on the Plateau des Millevaches

This natural area, also designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, offers magnificent spectacles under the stars, for a special evening.

Upon returning from your expedition, stop at Lake Viam or Oussines Pond for a final hike, followed by a well-deserved swim. Do you enjoy history? Take a step back in time at the Gallo-Roman site of Les Cars, which is open to the public year-round, free of charge.

Discover the world of slate workers at Pans de Travassac

North of Brive, near Donzenac, you can visit the Pans de Travassac tourist site. Unique in Europe, it offers an impressive journey into history to discover the ancestral slate-working know-how.

In a former slate quarry, you can observe these large slabs of raw rock from which Corrèze slate is extracted. Enjoying an unparalleled reputation, it is found on the roofs of local and Auvergne houses, but also proudly adorns the famous Mont-Saint-Michel abbey !

Experience caving at the Gouffre de la Fage

In a vast undergrowth in the commune of Noailles lies the Gouffre de la Fage, the only cave with concretions in the Corrèze region. The site, divided into two sections, offers a marvelous mineral dive to a depth of 25 meters, where you can discover brightly colored draperies, calcite bridges, stalactites, and columns, among other formations. The Gouffre de la Fage is also a paleontological site and, to your great surprise, a bat colony ! A colony of 14,000 bats has made its home there, visible at certain times of the year!

Go on a canoe or barge trip

Corrèze can also be experienced on the water… With its many rivers, Vézère, Auvézère, Corrèze to name just a few, as a canoe-kayak enthusiast, you will be spoiled for choice!

The trips on gabarre boats, these flat-bottomed boats which used to carry loads of wood downriver for the vineyards and cooperages of the Bordeaux region, invite you to stroll through the gorges and valley of the Dordogne.

Feel the soul of Corrèze vibrate in Brive

Brive-la-Gaillarde is not the prefecture of Corrèze. But with approximately 50,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city. Its dynamism proves it, while its relaxed and energetic atmosphere is always a draw.

Brive is definitely worth a visit. Its city center, mostly pedestrianized, can be explored in half a day. The map provided by the Tourist Office will help you discover its charming alleyways, enticing shops and boutiques, beautiful monuments, and interesting museums.

The highlight of your stroll is the Saturday morning market, a true Brive institution! It's the Georges-Brassens market hall, where it takes place, that has made it so famous. Come and lose yourself there to discover all the gastronomy of the Corrèze region.

Sample the specialties of Corrèze

The local produce of Corrèze is bountiful, like its natural landscape. The region is a land of mushrooms, chestnuts, apples (including the Limousin apple with its Protected Designation of Origin), small red fruits (especially the legendary Monédières blueberry), and walnuts (you can even follow the Walnut Route)...

They also raise freshwater fish, which have plenty of places to thrive, Limousin Label Rouge beef, milk-fed veal, black-rumped pigs, geese and ducks which can be enjoyed whole, as foie gras, in preserves… In addition, there are sweet delicacies (jam and honey) as well as cheeses, including the melting Feuille du Limousin.

If you're a food lover, you can sample all these products in Corrèze restaurants, find them on the colorful, fragrant, and delicious stalls of the markets, in farmers' markets, or directly at the farm. You can even pick them yourself, combining pleasure with a pleasant walk that always appeals to young and old alike!
