Brive-la-Gaillarde is the most important city of Corrèze, but it is not the Prefecture (it is Tulle). It is a dynamic city, which has been able to capitalize on its location (easy access from Paris, Bordeaux, etc.), its strengths and above all its favorite sport: Rugby and its club which has existed since 1910. With just under 50 000 inhabitants, an agglomeration that is growing and all around, a generous nature, it is a perfect place for a holiday stay in Corrèze. In addition, you are very close to the Dordogne, the Vézère Valley which begins in Corrèze and continues with the Vallée de l'Homme, which you will enjoy discovering. Start by visiting Brive, a city that is worth the detour, both for its charming alleys and for its shops, its relaxed and energetic atmosphere , and its leisure facilities. Just next to Brive, we invite you to discover the sumptuous Lac du Causse, an artificial lake of a bewitching blue, which is a nautical leisure base, with beautiful beaches, a footpath that goes around it, the rental of various boats and small restaurants and guinguettes to eat and have fun. In the area, you can go hiking (as everywhere in Corrèze, the department is very well provided with marked trails), mountain biking and even rock climbing!

Of the Most Beautiful Villages of France in Corrèze

Do you like beautiful architecture? Villages that have a history, old stones and the desire to highlight them for everyone's enjoyment? The prestigious Label of the Most Beautiful Villages of France was born in Corrèze in 1982, on the initiative of a former Mayor of the village of Collonges-la-Rouge. It is a Label which aims to ensure the notoriety of the villages rewarded, the membership procedure includes 27 criteria to be respected and a real commitment to be actors in the economic, social and cultural development of the villages, for holidaymakers as much than the locals!

• Visit Collonges-la-Rouge and its marvelous village houses, take a walk to meet artisans, treat yourself to a meal in one of its restaurants, be curious and browse through its alleys. It is a surprising place! Just next door, don't miss another red sandstone village: Meyssac.
  
  
• Just to the west, you will be surprised by Turenne, on its rocky promontory with, at its summit, the tower of the castle which watches over the surrounding plain... visit this village which winds up to its castle and promises you a view Breathtaking.
  
  
• To the northwest of Brive, Saint-Robert is another delight. A quieter and smaller village than the two previous ones, where you can stroll quietly while admiring its beautiful residences and its sober and elegant Romanesque church.
  
  
• In the very north of this territory, visit Ségur-le-Château on the banks of the beautiful Auvézère river, it is with Turenne, Comborn and Vantadour one of the 4 viscounties of Corrèze. It is a village where the light is magical, it is reflected in the river and illuminates the buildings, especially at the end of the day. Go around the village through its small streets, cross its bridge and continue to make a nice loop.

Other very pretty villages are to be discovered in this region, follow the Vézère and its gorges, dip your feet in the Saillant bridge, canoe down the Vézère gorges or climb the local cliffs to the via ferrata! Discover the Cité du Cheval Arnac Pompadour and let yourself be tempted by a horse race and a visit to the Pompadour stud farm next to the Château de Pompadour. In the Yssandonnais (to be discovered from the Site de la Roche viewpoint), an area made up of limestone mounds, you will appreciate the hillsides of Ayen (and its arboretum) and Perpezac-le-Blanc. In Aubazine, it is the Canal des Moines that will attract your attention, a remarkable work to discover on foot, on the occasion of a beautiful walk towards the Coiroux waterfalls (and the Coiroux lake a little further!) which feed the canals carrying water to the village and the monastery. Take a trip to Donzenac, a stopover village that has many attractions with the Château de Comborn just next door...

• The sections of Travassac: visit to learn more about slate, this material that is extracted in impressive rock gorges, with a hell of a hammer blow!
• The Gouffre de la Fage: To dive underground and see a cave with concretions 25m deep.
• Les Jardins de Colette: A perfect place for a country day in the heart of these sumptuous gardens with labyrinth, games, 6 thematic gardens, and the meeting with the writer Colette.
• The Neanderthal Museum to learn more about our ancestors and their occupation of this area
• The Arboretum Al Gaulhia, a magnificent garden with multiple species, managed by enthusiasts who are not stingy with explanations!
